Abstract:In a multidatabase system with an object-oriented data model as a common data model, query processing on schema integration semantics should not only implement the translation from a query against integrated schema to queries against export schema, but also reduce the datum used for answering for user's query as more as possible and ensure the correctness of object reference in semantics. To achieve this object, in this paper, the authors present some new concepts, query processing rules and query processing methods for path expression on schema integration semantics.

Abstract:Analogical reasoning technique is significant to the development of AI systems. Computing systems based on conventional architecture are very inefficient in doing analogical reasoning and this abstract the research and application of analogical reasoning. To solve this problem, a high -performance embedded analogical reasoning systems called ARC(analogical reasoning coprocessor) is presented in this paper. Since ARC has a specialized architecture with special speedup strategy to support analogical reasoning mechanism, and is implemented with advanced integrated devices, it’s much faster than conventional computing systems in doing analogical reasoning.

Abstract:In this paper, a geometrical representation of M-P neural model is presented. From the representation,a clear visual picture and interpretation of the model can be seen. Two interesting applications based on the interpretation are discussed. They are (1) a new design principle of feedforward neural networks, and (2) a new proof of mapping abilities of three-layer feedforward neural networks.

Abstract:To solve the deficiency of dimension in the interactive processing or the parameter design at present, the authors present a method for deleting, inserting and modifying dimensions in engineering drawings. The relations between dimensions are extracted, the view areas and different level dimensions are divided, and self-adaptive processings of the dimension changes are implemented.

Abstract:QBIC (query by image content) is a method to query image by characteristics of the object (or region) of the image, which include color, shape texture and spatial relations. This new research project combines technique of IP (image process), IR (image recognition) and IDB, is a very prospecting domain. The authors deal with the investigation and realization of querying images by the shape of image objects(or region) in this paper, which includes: (1) the cognitive process of shape; (2) a set of characteristic to describe shape of image object; (3) an efficient match algorithm for image querying; (4) a prototype system for querying image by the shape of image objects, which named Photo Engine.

Abstract:In recent years, great advances have been made in the QoS(quality of service) management and its implementation supporting mechanisms in distributed multimedia systems. In this paper, the QoS management implementation supporting mechanisms are discussed from following aspects: admission control and resource reservation, rate-based flow control, error control, scheduling and synchronization. Finally, future research works are proposed.

Abstract:In this paper, the authors select OQL(object query language) of the object database standard: ODMG-93 suggested by ODMG(object database management group) as global query language in object-oriented multidatabase SCOPE/CIMS and present a formal foundation for implementing OQL, including an object calculus and an object algebra suitable for modeling OQL, normalization rules and normalization steps of the object calculus; mapping rules and translation methods between the calculus and the algebra.

Abstract:This paper and its sequel present a denotational semantic descriptive method based on trace. The method combines characteristics of operational semantics and algebraic semantics, avoids domain theory as the theoretical basis, and unites static semantic and dynamic semantic description. It is contended that the new method is more suitable to be used to deal with real programming language by using it to define semantics of a middle-scale Algol-like model language. In this paper, the concept of trace is introduced first, then a model language is given and the corresponding semantic domains are defined without using recursive domain equations.

Abstract:A new learning algorithm of neural network, called technique of appended samples, is proposed in this paper, which well combines a priori knowledge with the training samples knowledge to design a neural network. Its complexity is just polynomial O(n4)). This new method can be used in designing a better performance of neural network. This article is structured as follows: the FP algorithm and the cover algorithm based on FP algorithm are introduced in the section 1. In the next section, the FP statistical technique of appended samples is provided. Finally, a design example is given to illustrate the efficiency of new method.

Abstract:A scheme, designed for integration of heterogeneous data sources based on CORBA(common object request broker architecture) in a plug & play way, is put forward in this paper. An object model, named OIM(object model for integration), is proposed as the common data model for integration. The system can integrate various heterogeneous data sources, ranging from database systems, file systems, to hypertext files in World-Wide-Web. Any other data source, if wrapped according to the specified way can be integrated into the system, whenever necessary. The architecture, OIM, query processing, user interface design are introduced in some detail in the paper.

Abstract:The dither pattern in image processing is studied in this paper and it is crucial in color image printing output. First, one pattern dithering method based on the evaluating function is presented and it is implemented by applying simulated annealing algorithm. Then some improved evaluating functions are presented. The results show that this method is better than Jarvis Dithering.

Abstract:In this paper, the author extends the concepts of functional dependency, multiple valued dependency, normal form and normalization in relational model to complex object model with nested structure. The semantics of entity relationship are captured in functional dependency and multiple valued dependency. The approaches and steps of normalization are proposed. In final normal form, there exists no any incomplete nesting, and on every level of nested structure there exists only the key with single attribute, which corresponds to the BCNF normal form in relational model. It could not only make redundancy minimum, avoid anomalies of update, but also improve query performance, guarantee to correctly and simply express entity relationship with nested structure and without flat entity relationship classes.

Abstract:MDAM (multidirectional associative memory) is a direct extension of Kosko BAM (bidirectional associative memory). It can be applied in data fusion and splitting larger dimensional input patterns to ease some problems to be solved. At present, the existing multidirectional models only dealt with binary input-output patterns or data. However, some patterns in such applications as image processing and pattern recognition are represented in a multivalued mode. Therefore, the above models have some processing difficulties. The purpose of this paper is to present a MVeMDAM (multi-valued exponential associative memory) to partially solve the difficulties. In this paper, the stability of the MVeMDAM is proven in synchronous and asynchronous update modes for neuron states, which enables the MVeMDAM to ensure all the training pattern sets to become the stable states of the system. Finally, the computer simulation results confirm feasibility of the proposed model.
