Electronic book system(EBS)is an experimental hypermedia system being developed at the Institute of Computer Science and Technology，Beijing University．It in-eludes an authoring system which is used for constructing EBS databases．The design of the authoring system seeks to support hierarchical structuring of information and provide an explicit and separate hierarchical structure processing mechanism．
